Micro Barb Shrimp
This is a pattern inspired by the Micro Barb Crab which designed by David Samuel... everyone was looking at Micro Barb for dry flies... but David put it into a crab pattern.
I would have to say it's a very interesting idea... it does not even look like a crab to me... :-p
He put it in with valid reason, as the Micro Barb Crab is created for Bonefish, he wants to create a lot of sand 'Smoke' on the base when he strip.... well... he did it... and the Bonefish love it
Material list
Gamakatsu -Bonefish hook size 8
Black bead chain
PRISM Ice dub - pink
Rabbit Zonker or Marabou in light Dun or white
Micro Barb in light Dun or light dray / beight
Barred Silileg
Flash
Step by step tying instructions:
Prepare the thread base
Tie in some Rabbit Zonker / Marabou
Tie in a pair of flash
Tie in the Sililegs
Tie in the bead chain ( as the eye and to counter the hook's weight )
Wind in some Ice dub
Tie in the Micro Barb hackle
I would like to cover the hook a little bit more with extra fiber ( optional step )
Wind in some Ice Dub... I choose pink, but you can play with the color you like to match with the shrimp color in your water
Wind in the hackle, tie down and trim the extra
Trim the fibers at the bottom... this will help the pattern sit properly on the ground...
as you can see, there are a lot of fiber and materials on the top... This will help make sure the hook point up when the fly drop in the water... just simple water resistant principle...
Brush out some dubbing...
and that's it... ready to fish
